| ABOUT US: |
| Music in our schools is very important. Music is all around us and plays a major part in our lives. We hear it on the radio, on television, in the movie theatres, at shopping malls, at grocery stores, on websites, on iPods, not to mention at LIVE concerts. |
| LIVE concerts? Exposure to LIVE music is an important part of inspiring the next generation of musicians. Many of us, whether we are professional musicians or not, have music as an important part of our lives. Music is important to us emotionally. It can bring us up when we're feeling down, it can energize us, songs lyrics help us to understand that we're not alone, it can make us strong, it can bring life to dismal situations. |
| Music has other important effects. It helps our minds to think in a different way, to be more creative. It helps us think more abstractly in the areas of mathematics and in science. It brings together culturals that cannot communicate because of language barriers. Music is the universal language. I have performed in foreign countries where I couldn't speak the language of the country that I was in and the students I performed for could not speak English. However, they understood what I played on my instrument, and you could see the excitement they felt! |
| It is important that our schools cultivate the arts. The focus and function of our schools is to create educated, well rounded individuals that can survive in today's changing world. We need to preserve "art." We need to expose our children (and adults) to various types of art and culture. There are many different types and styles of music. The more our children are exposed to various styles of music, the more cultured they will be. They will be able to make their own decisions down the road as to what they personally like and dislike, and they can help create new music to shape this new and changing world. |
